Actress Angelina Jolie has quietly returned to Haiti for meetings with Haitian and U.N. officials.
Jolie, who is well known for her interest in children, was on a fact-finding trip to learn more about the situation of Haiti's children, particularly those left homeless and orphaned by the Jan. 12 earthquake.
U.N. officials confirmed the visit when asked by The Associated Press. They agreed to discuss the trip only if not quoted by name because they were asked not to share details of Jolie's visit.
Jolie is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR. She met judges, lawyers, ministry of social affairs officials and other actors involved in children's issues to get a sense of the problem.
The actress has also visited Iraq, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries on behalf of the U.N. refugee agency.
